Background

This document summarises feedback from the initial trials at UPV and other trial partners during November and December 2016. It is a synthesis of themes that have come through multiple issue reports and need further planing/tasks to be addressed.

Additional issues and comments have been added 24 Jan 2017 following a second report from UPV.

IssueImport of slides containing images and diagrams
Description
  1. Slides containing multiple images and/or diagrams are not imported correctly. This is due to limitations in the import engine PPTX2HTML which currently only supports line diagrams and a few image types (jpg, png, gif)

  2. When a slide imports, input boxes are created for the missing diagram and images but they are empty. This creates additional difficulties for the user as they have to remove these empty input boxes before adding the missing content.
  3. If an image has been cropped ( SWAQ-86 - Getting issue details... STATUS )or rotated ( SWAQ-89 - Getting issue details... STATUS SWAQ-275 - Getting issue details... STATUS SWAQ-284 - Getting issue details... STATUS ) in the PPTX, then this information is not imported as the orginal image is imported.
  4. Importing of lists: embedded levels are separated into separate unordered lists and content is imported in the wrong order.

Suggestion (Abi)..... add prepossessing to the import service so that diagrams and unsupported images are converted into images. Consider whether this should be in SVG format to allow images and diagrams to be editable.
Klaas: I agree. lets do this in gradual steps/separate tickets (e.g. "preproces/handle image format X"). I think this is also very related to work on the file/media service by Roy Meissner. I think  SWIK-919 - Getting issue details... STATUS , which Dejan Paunović is working on, is related to diagrams. Luis Daniel Fernandes Rotger did a lot of work on both importing and showing diagrams in SWIK-802 - Getting issue details... STATUS .
SVG support is very important, we already did work on this, even in this sprint  SWIK-836 - Getting issue details... STATUS SWIK-837 - Getting issue details... STATUS SWIK-755 - Getting issue details... STATUS .  Currently the SVG info is imported, although not shown well or editable.

Initial discussion of designing and implementing an overall/good solution to handle all SVG asap. The original slidewiki uses an external SVG editor: Import and editing of SVG images and diagrams

Import of images might be improved by SWIK-781 - Getting issue details... STATUS

IssueThemes and backgrounds are not imported
Description

Themes and backgrounds are removed on import. PPTX2HTML states they have basic support but we don't seem to be using it.

We need to build functions to allow users to import, edit and create themes.

Klaas: New version 4.6 on http://ckeditor.com/ seems to allow for proper image resize. We now use version 4.5.11 SWIK-921 - Getting issue details... STATUS

Need to decide on whether to continue to support absolute layouts.

FYI - new version of CKEditor in development and may address some of these issues.
Klaas: Indeed the new version 4.6 on http://ckeditor.com/ looks good. We now use version 4.5.11. Seems to allow for proper image resize. Perhaps I can also try experimenting with using the CKeditor toolbar (standard/default, see, as opposed to the current use of the inline editor (which cases some problems).

(1) SWAQ-244 - Getting issue details... STATUS on hold as can not improve this through CKeditor. Although we should make sure themes allow users to define default style of bullets and numbered lists.

(2) headings - this will be part of themes

(3) SWIK-924 - Getting issue details... STATUS to extend symbol list

(4) Ckeditor 4.6 seems to allow for proper image resize. Perhaps I can also try experimenting with using the CKeditor toolbar (standard/default, see, as opposed to the current use of the inline editor (which cases some problems).

(5) low priority.

IssueSlide renaming issues
Description

Users reported difficulties with renaming the slide in the decktree. User is required to press enter to activate the slide title change which caused issues. In addition intermittent bugs were observed:

  • p tags being inserted around slide title when it is duplicated ( SWIK-935 - Getting issue details... STATUS )
  • symbols and accents in slide titles being presented as Unicode or errors ( SWIK-633 - Getting issue details... STATUS )
