Background

As part of our spam handling strategy we need to have a clear definition of spam. In particular, do we consider advertising as spam. For example https://slidewiki.org/deck/95212-1/slide/589889-1/589889-1:9/view includes information about repairing a laptop and then the last slide advertises a phone number that could be a fraudulent number. Our terms and conditions should make it clear what content is acceptable so we need to decide if we exclude advertising from SlideWiki.

Comments:

  • If someone for example prepares a lecture over healthy food and at the last slide gives his contacts e.g. for questions - what do we say? It is of course an advert, but..do we allow it or not
  • Or maybe we might in such situations let our users decide? I mean that users can also mark a deck not only as a spam. but as an advertising..
  • We could say: max 10% of slides are advertising - at least 50% needs to be educational

Looking at wikimedia foundation as a model ... https://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Terms_of_Use/en there terms of use prohibit offensive material. There is also guidelines on spam https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Spam
