Types of sources and tags

Background

At the meeting in Genoa we discussed using the Tags and Sources as a first step in implementing semantic annotation. This discussion effect the UI for the Sources and (proposed) tags content module and also the Semantic Representation and DataSource data models.

Currently, the DataSource types listed in the UI are:

  • Web page
  • Web document
  • Publication
  • Person
  • Plain text

Each type has the same properties: Title, URL, Authors, Year, comment

We have discussed using sources to contain information for the attribution of images and other copyright materials.

So my questions are:

  • what other categories of sources are needed to support semantic annotations and for learning objects?
    • images
    • ....
  • Do we need additional or different properties for certain source types?
    • Images - requires licence / attribution details. This could be stored in the same data model but with a different UI or requires and extension of the data model
  • Do we attempt to store information so that it is in an inter-operable format for citations and ontologies?
